What type of organization is Humber, Mundie & McClary and where are you located?

Humber, Mundie & McClary (HM&M) is a partnership of consulting business psychologists that specialize in leadership assessment and development (See About Us).

HM&M is located at 111 E. Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 1700 in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin (53202). Our offices are accessible from interstates I-43, I-794 and I-94. For specific instructions and maps Click here, or call (414) 271-6220.

I'm scheduled for an evaluation at HM&M. What can I expect?

You will meet with a business psychologist to discuss your school and work history as well as your personal style and interests. You will also work with a trained administrator on paper and pencil tests. Since assessment length varies, please contact us or the person who scheduled your appointment.

What does the testing involve?

You will be guided by a trained administrator who will provide instructions prior to taking each test. Activities may include timed tests of logic, mathematics, verbal reasoning and creative problem solving as well as untimed personality questionnaires. The results of the timed tests allow individuals to be considered on the same basis. The results of the untimed personality questionnaires provide insight into your style of working with others and your leadership characteristics. Approach the paperwork with confidence. Consider it an opportunity to demonstrate your skills and abilities. All tests and interview procedures are designed in accordance with the professional standards of the American Psychological Association.

How can I best prepare for my assessment?

During the interview you will be asked to discuss your background and experience. The conversation will cover a chronology of school and work. You will also be asked to describe yourself and how you work with others. We encourage you to be frank and candid in your responses. Be prepared to talk about your education (i.e., favorite subject matter, degrees earned, GPA, etc.), employment history (including jobs held, promotions, salary history, dates, reasons for changing employers, etc.), likes and dislikes about your work, approach to problem solving, work habits, interpersonal and managerial style, accomplishments, strengths and weaknesses, career goals and aspirations.

You are not expected to prepare for the paperwork portions. If you choose, however, a review of basic arithmetic functions, including fractions, decimals and percentages, may prove beneficial. Because strong performance requires a balance of both speed and accuracy, you may want to take some practice tests involving mathematics and problem solving that will give you experience testing under timed conditions. Guidebooks on test preparation often contain practice tests and are available at many local libraries, bookstores, and through the Internet. Following are two books that you may find helpful should you choose to do some preparation:

Strategies and Preparation
Kesselman-Turkel, J. & Peterson, F. (1981). Test-Taking Strategies. Chicago, IL:
NTC/Contemporary Publishing Group, Inc.

Math
Immergut, B., & Smith, J.B. (2005). Arithmetic and Algebra ... Again. New York:
McGraw-Hill Companies.

The first six chapters of the math book apply to the test.

What should I bring with me for the assessment?

Be sure to bring your resume or fact sheet with dates of all employment after high school. All materials needed for taking the tests will be provided to you. Use of test aids such as calculators and dictionaries is not permitted during the timed testing.

How should I dress for the assessment and what if I have special needs?

Feel free to dress business casual and advise us of any questions or special needs you may have (Contact Us). Know that a little anxiety prior to the assessment session is normal and can actually help motivate as well as focus your effort. If possible, arrive at Humber, Mundie & McClary's offices in advance of your scheduled time. This will help you relax, remain calm, and concentrate on doing your best.

If English is not my native language, what should I do?

Humber, Mundie & McClary is accustomed to working with international clients. We adjust our testing to accommodate people when English is not their native language. Please advise our staff prior to taking any of the written tests. If you require a translator, let the person at the organization requesting your assessment know as soon as possible.

What happens with the results of my assessment?

Following the assessment a written or verbal report will be prepared and delivered to the organization who scheduled your assessment. It will summarize the results of your tests and interview responses. This report is treated as highly confidential.

Are there hotels near your headquarters?

Yes. The heart of Milwaukee's downtown has numerous hotels -- most with great restaurants. For hotel information, click here.

I'm coming to Milwaukee for the first time. Tell me a little about the city.

Milwaukee is a charming "old world" city where history comes to life. The city is located on the western shore of Lake Michigan and is well known for its friendly people, great restaurants and cultural sites. It is also the home of Harley-Davidson, the Brewers, and the Milwaukee Art Museum's Quadracci Pavilion, the first Santiago Calatrava-designed building in the United States. Tips for food and drink: Milwaukee is known for its German food, micro breweries and frozen custard.
